THE OTHER DANCEL IS BACK AND CAN’T KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT, AND WE WOULDN’T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY
No, this isn’t one of my boss’ crazy ideas. Writing this and making it the main review for this issue was solely my idea. Me, the former bandmate of local indie folk-rock outfit Peryodiko’s frontman and main songwriter, Vin Dancel. Me, his erstwhile guitar player (for almost seven years, actually) in a band called Twisted Halo. From that fact alone, this review would probably never be 100% impartial, but my firsthand experience with this longtime indie rock maverick (he famously said, “We will not take this sitting down!” as an acceptance speech at the NU107 Rock Awards – oh wait, that was my band, too) might be able to shed some light on how the musical half (the other being the legal half) of his brain works. That, and I still have a beef with him for breaking our band up. Just kidding. Peryodiko isn’t exactly an entirely new outfit for Vin; drummer Abe Billano (formerly of Cagayan De Oro’s finest art-metal act Nuncyspungen, and most recently, Dong Abay’s live drummer) was actually Twisted Halo’s third and final drummer, and probably the one he was most comfortable with (no offense to the others), so getting him was a no-brainer. Bassist Simon Tan could very well be the most senior member of the group, with credentials ranging from WDOUJI to Lampano Alley (heck, he has his own Wikipedia page), while ace guitarist Kakoy Legaspi is one musician who has always been on Vin’s “I want to work with you someday” wishlist. On paper his current group already sounds different from his (our) previous band, but then again, Twisted Halo had three guitar players almost simultaneously (and our combined skills couldn’t possibly match Kakoy’s) and overhauled our rhythm section thrice. – Check out Pulp Magazine June-July issue to read more.
